You can download a fully functional evaluation version of
GedWise by selecting one of the links listed below in the Download
Files section. You are permitted to use this version for up to
30 days at no charge. After 30 days, the software will stop working on
your handheld device. During the evaluation period, GedWise will display
popup messages reminding you to register, as well as a delayed splash screen
when you start up the program. You can eliminate the splash screen and
popup reminder messages by registering GedWise. Go to the
Register
section for information on purchasing a GedWise registration code.

NOTE:
Windows Vista users must right click on the GedWise installation file and select
"Run as administrator" to begin the installation process.
Palm OS Platform

Download the GedWise installation file by double-clicking
on one of the links in the Download Files
section below.
If you
currently are using GedWise 5.1 or earlier, you must
uninstall it from your PC and handheld before installing the updated version.
The databases created in these prior versions of GedWise are not compatible with the
new version. If you are upgrading from GedWise 6.0 to a higher
version, you do NOT have to uninstall the old version. The installer
automatically will
update the required files. Start the GedWise
installation by doing the following:
Windows
Double-click on the GedWise62Win.exe
file that your downloaded and follow the instructions to
complete the installation. Then do a HotSync to automatically transfer the GedWise Viewer to your
handheld device.
Linux
Log in as "root". On the command line, type: rpm -i
gedwise-6.3-2.i386.rpm. Then transfer the GedWise Viewer file,
GedWise.prc, to your
handheld device using your preferred Palm sync software. This file is
located in the "/usr/share/gedwise" folder.
Mac OS X
Decompress the GedWise632_OSX.zip file that you downloaded.
Double-click on the GedWise.prc file to add it to your Palm Install
folder, and do a HotSync to transfer this file to your handheld device.
Run the GedWise Installer Package by double-clicking on the
GedWise632_OSX.pkg file. GedWise automatically will be installed in your
Applications folder.

IMPORTANT
NOTE: In order to use this
version of GedWise, your genealogy software must be able to export a GedCom file
using the Unicode-16 character set. This version of GedWise will not work with
any other encoding. It does not support Ascii nor Ansel.
The only difference between GedWise version 8.3 and GedWise version 7.3 is that
version 8.3 supports the Unicode character set. There is no other
difference.

| Note: Some Tungsten T3's may not have come
pre-installed with two dynamic input area support files that enable 3rd
party applications to make use of the extended screen. Palm has
created and made available these files for developers to distribute.
Click

files, which are contained in one 37K compressed (zipped) file.
After downloading the file, open it and double click on both "prc" files
to add them to the Palm Quick Installer. Then do a Hotsync.
Please see the readme file within the download file for additional
information. Note that BOTH prc files must be installed on your T3
at the same time. |
