1.  GedWise Requirements

GedWise requires the following to operate:

 

2.  Installation Instructions

Before installing GedWise you must connect your handheld device to your computer. Make sure Microsoft ActiveSync is running and shows that your device is connected.

New User
Download the GedWise installation program onto your computer from the Battery Park Software website. Begin the installation by clicking on this file. The setup program will start up and guide you through the installation process.

NOTE: Windows Vista users must right click on the GedWise installation file and select "Run as administrator" to begin the installation process.

Once you see the "Application Download Complete" message on your computer, check your handheld device to see if any other steps are necessary to complete the installation. You may see an "unknown publisher" prompt on your device requesting you to confirm the installation of GedWise. Select "Yes" to continue. You may also be prompted on your device as to where to install the GedWise program. You may select either your device or external storage card (if available) and then press "Install".

Upon completion of the setup process the GedWise Converter program will be installed on your computer, and the GedWise Viewer will be installed on your handheld.

Upgrading
If you are upgrading from a previous release of GedWise you must first uninstall the old GedWise software from your computer and handheld device
as described in the Uninstalling GedWise section.  Then install GedWise according to the Installation Instructions above.

5.  Uninstalling GedWise

You can uninstall GedWise from your computer and handheld device by doing the following:

 

Computer:  Use the "Add or Remove Programs" option in your computer's Control Panel.  Select “Battery Park Software GedWise” from the list, and press the Remove button.

 

Handheld device: Select Settings from the Start menu.  Choose the System tab and press the icon labeled 'Remove Programs'.  Choose 'Battery Park Software GedWise' from the list of installed programs, and press the Remove button.
